Preserving Evidence: Have you done your homework?

Preserving Evidence: Have you done your homework?

Recently, we have had several cases where a collision occurred and the police officers (for a variety of reasons) failed to write any tickets or take down the names of any eye witnesses at the scene. As a result, we have had to hit the ground to find eye witnesses. To our client's surprise, several eye witnesses have come forward to speak out about what they saw.

When it comes to your personal injury case, and you've hire a lawyer, you may be able to assist to help in the efforts to collect evidence to prove that someone else was negligent and caused you to suffer harm.  While the attorney can assist in the efforts to uncover some of that evidence, you might be able to find a lot of it on your own.  Among the most beneficial bits of information in a court case are eye witness testimonies

Locating Eye Witnesses: If you can locate the people who were there at the time the accident occurred, then you will have an easier time demonstrating the truth of what happened that day.

Online Investigations: You can learn a lot about a person and even track a person down with the use of the internet today.  The best part is that it doesn’t have to cost you anything to do so.  Consider the following websites and how they might help you in your lawsuit:

  • Whitepages.com.  This is a great place to hunt down a person and his or her contact information.
  • Facebook.  The social networking giant is a wonderful investigative tool as well.  Those who have failed to change their privacy settings leave all sorts of personal information available for all to see.
  • LinkedIn.   The professional networking site does provide a lot of info on members, which often includes a work phone number.
